About Solar Backup Lab

Solar Backup Lab is an independent reference site covering portable power stations, solar generators and home battery backup. We publish verified specifications and calculated runtimes — the numbers you need to work out whether a given unit will get your household through an outage.

What we cover

Battery backup for homes: keeping a refrigerator cold, a CPAP running, a router online and phones charged when the grid goes down. We concentrate on the 1,000–1,500 Wh class, because that is where the price, weight and capacity trade-off lands for most households buying their first unit.

We do not cover whole-home standby generators, permanent solar installations, or anything requiring an electrician and a permit. Different problem, different site.

Editorial standards

Who writes this

Solar Backup Lab is a small independent publisher. Pages are researched and written by the Solar Backup Lab editorial team and reviewed against the source specifications before publication. We are not sponsored by, affiliated with, or supplied by any manufacturer whose products we cover.

Corrections

We would rather be corrected than be wrong. If a figure here does not match the source we cited, or a manufacturer has revised a spec, write to us and we will fix it and re-date the page.
